A contender for my favorite painter.
Daily Pic: Edouard Vuillard’s “Interior, Mother and Sister of the Artist,” a stunning painting from 1893 now in a show called “Snapshot: Painters and Photography, Bonnard to Vuillard” at the Phillips Collection in Washington. (Click on the image to enlarge it.) The photograph beside it is one of several snapshots that Vuillard took of his family, and that influenced the domesticity in his art. At the Vuillard survey at the National Gallery in 2003, the link between paintings and photos was a big revelation. The Phillips now tells the whole story, for Vuillard’s whole generation.
